EcoWorks- Straw Bale work on eco-building in St.Anns -- Part 5

We have done a bit more on "eco-building" at ECOWORKS, a community garden project on the Hungerhill allotments in St. Ann's. Volunteers have been working on this exciting project since October, and it's time to put the walls up now! Straw bales are a low-impact, highly insulating and user-friendly building material. The construction process is highly inclusive, satisfying and fun.

The walls will go up this weekend! All are very welcome - everyone can help with a straw bale project, regardless of experience. All tools etc. will be provided. This is a great opportunity to learn this fascinating building technique and help to create an innovative building for Ecoworks!

Ecoworks is in St.Ann's, accessed from either Ransom Road or Hungerhills Road.

Indymedia Stickers Pixie : been around Nottingham

Spotted around Nottingham, Indymedia stickers are mushrooming up, all over the place. ........

It seems that there is a fair amount of interest on presenting Indymedia, to the passers-by.

Good on 'em ......

who said the Stones were playing? I dunno, they didn't turn up!

But various other outfits did, and a pleasent sunny afternoon was had by all at the small Waterloo Fiesta community gig, on Waterloo Crescent, near the forest.

Just a few piccys from there

Tour of Britain Cycle Race :: Nottingham Stage

stage 4 of the event

The challenging route in the East Midlands covers over 120 miles of picturesque countryside as it travels from Buxton to Nottingham.

Stage four leading positions:
1 Serguei Ivanov (Rus) 4hrs 24mins 17sec
2 Evan Oliphant (Gbr) Scotland
3 Kazuo Inoue (Jpn) Bridgestone Anchor
4 Paul Manning (Gbr) Recycling.co.uk/Litespeed
5 Luca Paolini (Ita) QuickStep - Innergetic at 10.06
6 Mark Cavendish (Gbr) Great Britain
7 Takashi Miyazawa (Jpn) Bridgestone Anchor
8 Nick Nuyens (Bel) QuickStep - Innergetic
9 Lars Michaelsen (Den) Team CSC
10 Javier Cherro Molina (Spa) Comunidad Valenciana

Throughout the day on the Victoria Embankment, there had been many displays and events, stalls and information, to try and get more people involved with cycling for competition, or fun. Including these two chaps one is 12 years and the other 16.

So, this event and these links are all about 'organised and corporate'competative cycling.

However, there is another sort. Simply for polution-free travel and fun. However, it's bloody dangerous with all these cars thinking the road is just for them, and being thoughtless to cyclist.

Thus Critical Mass was born .....

Join the critical mass bikeride through Nottingham on every last Friday of the month, meeting at Savoy Cinema, 5.30pm, on Derby Road

Artwork at the Blueprint

I've often been taken by the artwork on the wall, next to the entrance of Blueprint, as I've walked past.

Broad brush strokes, colour and lots of energy. Quite a vibrant piece really.

[anyone know where I can see more form this artist, and who it is?]

Blue Print (formerly the Skyy Club) is a club that often gets forgotten because it's located outside of the city centre. I'm told that they put on some good nights.

"Love is a human right"

This is such a serious bit of kit. It really did need its picture taking .....

It was taking part in the Pride Parade, attracting a fair bit of attention

Manchester Gay Pride Parade

Plenty of exhibits and loads of lovely people. Letting it all hang out. Next to Afro-Caribbean Carnivals, I think these events are the most colourful and exuberant that we have in this country.

The biggest cheers of the crowd, went to the public service workers.

The NHS and Ambulance Services and the Gay Police Association in full dress uniforms, don't they look smart. And now the Probation Service had a float. The Royal Air Force fielded a team together with the Army for the first time. Some of us are a little distressed that although we're all in favour of liberty at work, the idea of recruitment to military services under the cover of such a celebration, is not right. Earlier in the year, people at Brighton Pride did protest at these developments. [see: http://indymedia.org.uk/en/regions/southcoast/2005/08/320582.html]. All this on top of the rampant commercialisation that is now so obviously represented there.
